His Music

In his forty two years of life, Stephen wrote more than forty operas and many other works both large and small. To find information about specific works, there are three main sources:

1. There is a comprehensive list of published and unpublished works within the biography ‘Friendships in Constant Repair’ (see ‘News’ Section to obtain a copy)

2. Stephen’s publishers, Wise Music (Chester Novello) have details of all published works on their website and there is a brochure available for enquirers

3. The British Library houses the Stephen Oliver archive and a list of materials available there is recorded below

If you can’t find the information you want, use the ‘Contacts’ section of this website to raise your queries and we will do our best to address them.

Wise Music

A published works brochure is available listing works in sections. Information about each piece includes voice and instrument demands, length of works, first performance details and so on. Apply to them for a copy.

The full catalogue of Stephen’s published work is also available on the Wise Music website; click this link to access it. https://www.wisemusicclassical.com/composer/1160/Stephen-Oliver/

The British Library

In 2006, the Stephen Oliver archive of original scores and related documents was donated to the British Library. Staff within the music department have worked through all the material and are very happy to respond to enquiries about unpublished works as well as published works. There is a blog post introduction to the material and a link to the full online archive catalogue
